Punishment for boating under the influence
The safety of our waterways falls to everyone, from our government to our communities to individual citizens. We must all do our part. Alcohol has been a factor in several fatal motorboat accidents throughout the states. Besides jeopardizing your own life while operating a motorized vehicle, you choose to jeopardize someone else’s without their permission and that is not right! Everyone wants to enjoy a safe and happy environment when boating, so please do your part and don’t drink and boat. Here are some brief, but surprising punishments of what will happen if you get caught drinking and boating.
Arizona
- 0.08 BAC
- Up to a $2500 fine
- Up to six months in jail
California
- 0.08 Blood Alcohol Level
- Driver’s License Suspension from 6 months to 5 years, depending upon the number and type of vehicle and/or vessel violations accumulated
- Up to a $1000 fine
- Up to one year in the county jail
- Zero tolerance for drivers under the age of 21
Idaho
- 0.08 BAC
- Fines up to $1000
- Up to six months in county jail
Nevada
- 0.10 BAC
- Fines up to $5000
- Up to 20 years in jail
New Mexico
- 0.08 BAC
- Fines from $50 to $500
- Imprisonment for up to thirty day
Oregon
- $1113 fine for an accident
- $613 fine for a non-accident
- 0.08 Blood Alcohol Level
Utah
- 0.02 BAC
- Assessment at an alcohol rehabilitation center
- Mandatory jail sentence of 48 consecutive hours to 250 consecutive hours
Washington
- 0.08 BAC
- Up to 90 days in the county jail
- Up to a $1000 fine
